"I find that the faculty are more like colleagues than supervisors. They understand
the ups and downs of a graduate life and are always there to motivate you
and ensure your success. They are always there to help you but at the same
time make sure that you grow independent as a researcher. "

The Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology in the Eberly College of Science is home to a community of dedicated scientists conducting innovative research in the life sciences. The diverse research interests of the BMB faculty are united by a focus on exploring the functions of macromolecules in fundamental biological processes. In addition to a commitment to research excellence, the department is dedicated to education. Three undergraduate majors (Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Microbiology, and Biotechnology) provide outstanding opportunities for students to explore the life sciences. At the graduate level, the Biochemistry, Microbiology, and Molecular Biology (BMMB) doctoral program offers an exceptional research and learning environment for the training of future scientists. A Master in Biotechnology is also available in conjunction with the Biotechnology Institute of the Huck Institutes. We are currently conducting searches for Department Head and Assistant or Associate Professor positions.
